Paradox Interactive has opened beta testing for Stellaris update 4.5.3 “Cygnus”, with the official release scheduled for November 4. The patch promises sweeping changes to empire balance, economics, UI, and multiplayer stability.
The centerpiece is a revamp of planet habitability. The game will now display habitability scores above 125 %—up to 175 % and even 250 % when species traits allow it. Interactions between climate modifiers, terraforming, and species adaptation are fixed, and the UI gains new tooltips and more precise job‑production hints. Rare resource extraction is limited—certain buildings can appear only once per planet—while empires with the Tankbound origin receive an extra energy district early on. Hedonist societies lacking consumer‑goods shortages will demand half the usual amenities.
On the technical side, desynchronization detection in multiplayer is improved, rare crashes and connection errors are squashed, and numerous fixes target fleets, colonies, population migration, rebellions, and archaeological digs. As the patch remains in open testing, the final change list may still be tweaked before launch.
