During Steam Indie Connect, Tom Jardiño and Mark Wilkinson of Valve delved into the impact of artificial intelligence on today’s gaming industry. They emphasized that AI merely speeds up processes that have existed long before neural networks and dismissed developers' fears of extortionists using AI to churn out illegal clones.
Valve made it clear that it will not act as a heavy‑handed censor: the decision to use AI rests with creators. Instead of imposing technical restrictions, the company urges fighting fakes by building strong communities and continuously improving original titles. The team also addressed the surge of low‑quality AI‑driven projects at Steam Next Fest, explaining that random show allocations during the first two days were designed to give every participant equal exposure.
Additionally, Valve announced the integration of AI tools into localization pipelines, enabling studios to add translations in up to thirty languages simultaneously. This breakthrough dramatically simplifies indie releases on the world stage and opens new doors for smaller developers.
